AGRIVERDE agr. coop. soc. is an Italian organisation of fruit and vegetable producers based in the Campania region.
Founded in 2001, the PO pursues an improvement in the quality of production processes, aimed at ensuring a higher level of competitiveness of fruit and vegetable production, placing place them on the market by the PO sales office. That is in line with the founding purpose of a Producers Organization in the Community strategic plan.
Its main objective is, therefore, the creation of synergies between small and medium farms so that, combined, they can reach the organizational and economic dimensions needed in order to address the innovation and internationalization required by current and future market scenarios.
To this end, the PO considers as a priority the following objectives: ensuring that the production fulfils the demand in terms of quality and quantity and increasing the commercial value of the products.
This is due to the fact that, particularly in the current economic situation, the qualitative improvement of the product, both from the commodity and health point of view, as well as the optimization of production costs resulting from the structural and instrumental strengthening of the members, are essential conditions for placing the product on the market. That is true even in situations of low demand in which the quality requirements set by customers, especially foreign customers, increase and become a tool for selecting suppliers.
The Organization provides for the concentration of the product and subsequent marketing also through production, sorting and packaging processes which are carried out by members at its own facilities or, when necessary, at facilities made available by members. In this context, over the years, the PO has supported its members in achieving greater processing capacity by equipping them with processing lines and equipment. Members are subject to the processing and packaging instructions given by the PO. As a consequence, they use the packaging indicated or supplied by the PO itself or by the customers. When needed, members deliver the finished product to the customers indicated by the PO.
The PO Agriverde is certified under Global Gap Option 2 in order to stimulate a continuous quality improvement in terms of quality and environmental performance. Moreover, since the PO considers strategically essential to guarantee the quality of its products, has supported its agricultural producers members in obtaining, implementing and maintaining Global Gap Option 1 certification. In order to ensure the quality of its products, the PO Agriverde benefits from a technical-agronomic assistance service provided by GE.PRO.TER. coop. soc., a company specialised in providing technical, agronomic and analytical assistance to the agricultural sector, equipped with a modern laboratory for chemical and commodity analysis.
Currently, 52 producer members are members of the PO Agriverde agricultural coop. soc., the majority of which are located in Campania and the remaining part is distributed in the area of central-southern Italy, which is the most suitable area for the production of Italian fruit and vegetables. In accordance with the vocation of the territory, the farms that constitute the social base of the PO are active in the production of fresh fruit and vegetables. The cultivated agricultural area is about 800 hectares on which about 34,500 tons of fruit and vegetables are produced. Agriverde is a PO characterized by the predominant production of vegetables (91%). Among them, the main productions are salads (25%), followed by radishes (19%), table tomatoes and fennel (11%). Fruit production represents 9% of the VMP. Among fruit, watermelons and melons play a predominant role (6%).
